　　Founded in 1978, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS) of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) and School of Basic Medicine (SBM) of Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) was once to be Institute of Experimental Medical Sciences of CAMS founded in 1958 and the preclinical departments of PUMC founded in 1921. Nowadays IBMS (SBM) has 3 members of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), 2 members of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), 3 specially appointed professors possessing the title of “Cheung Kong professor” , 7 professor have won the ”National Fund of Natural Science for Outstanding Young Scientists” and 93 professors and associate professors. There are in function 15 departments and 1 national key lab of medical molecular biology which opens to scientists of the whole country and abroad . The institute (school) fulfills the task referring to both the scientific research and education.
