The 8th Hsien Wu & Ray Wu International Symposium was successfully held in Beijing from November 21 to 23, 2025. The symposium was sponsored by the State Key Laboratory of Common Mechanism Research for Major Diseases and co-organized by the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS) of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS), Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and Institute of Systems Medicine of CAMS/Suzhou Institute of Systems Medicine. Centered on the theme of “Immunity and Diseases”, the three‑day eventbrought together leading experts and scholars in immunology, oncology and basic medical sciences from home and abroad at the North Campus of CAMS to discuss about immune regulatory mechanisms, the pathogenesis and progression of diseases, and innovative therapeutic strategies. Participants engaged in in-depth exchanges on cutting-edge and high-profile topics in life sciences, and the vibrant academic atmosphere of the symposium further consolidated its status and influence as a high-level international academic exchange platform.

In commemoration of the outstanding contributions of Professor Hsien Wu and Professor Ray Wu to China’s life sciences, the symposium played a video recorded by Professor Albert W. Wu of Johns Hopkins University, who is the grandson of Professor Hsien Wu and son of Professor Ray Wu. In the video, Professor Albert Wu recounted the experiences of the two professors in their study, research and teaching affectionately, reviewed their foundational roles in establishing the disciplines of biochemistry and molecular biology in China, and expressed his high regard for the symposium’s role in carrying forward their academic spirit.Through his narration, the participants was once again moved by the two scholars’ profound patriotism, rigorous scientific attitude, and benevolent dedication to nurturing younger generations, which also lent special commemorative significance to the event.

By gathering many internationally renowned scholars, this symposium built a high-level academic exchange platform for young researchers to foster the growth of young scientific talents in immunity and diseases. During the three days, the leading experts and young participants conducted extensive interactions and in-depth discussions. With rich content, focused theme and informative messages, the symposium not only showcased the latest achievements of Chinese scientists in frontier life sciences but also provided valuable opportunities for promoting research collaboration and accelerating the translation of basic research findings into clinical applications.

Introduction to Hsien Wu & Ray Wu International Academic Symposium
To honor the outstanding contributions of Professor Hsien Wu and Professor Ray Wu to biochemistry and molecular biology, and in gratitude for their profound dedication to PUMC and China’s life sciences, the organizing committee officially initiated the hosting of Hsien Wu & Ray Wu International Academic Symposium in 2011. With the mission of advancing the development of life sciences, promoting international academic exchanges and cooperation, and supporting the growth of young talents, the symposium has been held in Beijing, Xi’an, Kunming, Suzhou and other cities, with themes covering the core areas of life sciences, including proteins, genes, metabolism, RNA, omics, and diseases. The symposium has attracted broad participation of members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, foreign academicians and renowned scientists worldwide, making it one of China’s most influential high-end academic exchange platforms in life sciences.
