IBMS Holds Meetings for the Formulation of Its 15th Five-Year Plan

The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS) held two special meetings recently for the formulation of its 15th Five-Year Plan.

On November 27, Symposium on the 15th Five-Year Development Plan was held in the Middle Conference Room on the 8th floor of Kesheng Building. At the symposium, heads of various functional departments reported on the progress of their preliminary research for the 15th Five-Year Plan. Participants actively contributed ideas and suggestions based on their own work and conducted in-depth discussions on key points of the Plan.

On December 10, IBMS held Promotion Meeting for the 15th Five-Year Plan Formulation and Symposium for Strategic Think Tank Experts in Conference Room 707 of Wu Hsien Building. The meeting put forward IBMS’s mission and positioning:“To reveal the fundamental mechanisms of life activities and disease occurrence and development, accelerate the self-reliance and self-improvement in high-level science and technology; to advance progress in medical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis, and lead the development of new quality productive forces in the medical field”.It also outlined major initiatives for the 15th Five-Year Plan period, including improving talent support and incentives, strengthening original research and clinical translation, optimizing disciplinary layout, and enhancing support from “major platforms”. Deputy deans of IBMS first introduced the completion of the 14th Five-Year Plan tasks, shortcomings, and gaps in current disciplinary development and reported emphatically on the development goals, key tasks and major projects for the 15th Five-Year Plan period from the perspectives of Party building, talent team, medical education, scientific and technological innovation, social services and resource allocation.

To further pool expert wisdom, IBMS appointed Academician Wang Cunyu, Academician Cheng Tao, Professor Li Chuanyuan, Professor Li Haitao and Professor Guan Jian as Think Tank Experts for IBMS’s 15th Five-Year Plan and Future Development Strategy. Professor Wang Qianben, Executive Dean of IBMS, issued appointment letters to these experts respectively.

The above meetings have generated broad consensus and preliminarily clarified the key directions for IBMS’s efforts during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. In the next step, IBMS will strive to translate the experts’ foresight and sagacity into scientific, concrete and operatable action plans in the final document toensure that the plan truly reflects the national will, conforms to the development laws, pools industry wisdom, and guides the institute’s future.
